My niece, Arantza Camargo Amundarain, a 14-year-old girl, was in her apartment on the first floor of Residencias Sol Marino Palace, on Playa Grande Avenue, La Guaira, Venezuela, when the devastating earthquakes struck on June 24. After days of anguished waiting, Arantza was found lifeless among the rubble on June 28.

Arantza was a deeply loved girl, full of dreams, joy, and a whole life ahead of her. Her passing leaves an indescribable pain for her mother, her family, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. In the midst of this tragedy, her mother, Osmary Amundarain, a single mother, not only lost the most precious thing in her life—her only daughter—but also lost everything materially. Her home, her belongings, and the stability she had built with so much effort were completely destroyed in a matter of seconds.

Today, Osmary urgently needs support to cover Arantza’s funeral expenses and to have a minimum of economic help that will allow her to meet her basic needs while she grieves and tries to rebuild her life from scratch. We know that no amount of money can ease the pain of losing a child.
