While the building was beginning to collapse, Jarry, Elizabeth's husband and the father of Isabella and Valentina, had stepped out just a few minutes earlier to walk the family's dogs. Then the unimaginable happened. Right before his eyes, he watched the building where his wife and daughters were trapped collapse. Desperate, he ran toward the rubble. Elizabeth, Isabella, and Valentina had been buried under tons of concrete after falling four stories when the building came down. Without waiting for rescue crews to arrive and not knowing whether they were still alive, Jarry began digging through the debris with his bare hands.

In just a matter of seconds, the lives of Elizabeth Cristina Bastos (38) and her daughters, Isabella (14) and Valentina (7), changed forever. On June 24, two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 struck Venezuela just seconds apart.
Elizabeth, Isabella, and Valentina were trapped beneath tons of concrete after falling four stories when their apartment building collapsed.
The opening shown in the photos is the very place where they were given a second chance at life. They survived—but they lost absolutely everything.
All three suffered multiple injuries and spent several days in the hospital. Although they have now been discharged, they still face a long road to physical and emotional recovery. Today, they are starting over from nothing.
Donations made through this campaign will go directly to Elizabeth Cristina Bastos and will help cover their most urgent needs, including:
Temporary housing
Food
Clothing and shoes
Medications and medical care
Transportation to medical appointments
Essential everyday items as they rebuild their lives
They now need all of us to help them start again. Thank you for showing that even after losing everything, kindness and generosity can restore hope.
